Q: Does TAU provide Programme and Project Management services to departments?
A: TAU is a 'facility' within the National Treasury which supports government institutions in programme
and project management, thus contributing to the quality of spend by improved management
capability in government to deliver on its mandate. TAU has developed the Project and Programme
Management (PPM) Toolkit and E-Learning module in support of this objective.
Q: What is the procedure for government departments to access TAU services?
A: A Letter of Request (LOR), signed by the Accounting Officer of the department stating assistance
required should be forwarded to TAU for consideration. Thereafter, a decision will be made informed
by the criteria for evaluating requests.
Q: What is the role of TAU in the creation and maintenance of Communities of Practice?
A: TAU was instrumental in establishing the Project Management Interest Group (PMIG) and Public Service
Monitoring and Evaluation Learning Network to facilitate knowledge sharing and dissemination within the
public sector with a view to spurring innovation and problem solving. TAU also supports Communities of
Practice and Learning Networks related to specific projects.

Q: How is the work of TAU aligned to clusters of government?
A: TAU has dedicated capacity for all the five clusters. Each cluster is overseen by an experienced Portfolio
Manager, supported by Technical Assistants. For more information on the portfolios, see information under
“Projects” on the TAU homepage.
Q: Does TAU provide workshops on Programme and Project Management or Monitoring and
Evaluation to government departments?
A: TAU contributes to public sector capacity building by providing technical assistance. Where TAU identifies
immediate capacity building needs as a result of its consulting and advisory engagement with a
department, targeted workshops are provided to meet specific and immediate needs. TAU does not
provide formal or accredited training and where such training is required, clients are referred to the Public
Administration Leadership and Management Academy (Palama). Palama has the mandate to provide
formal and accredited training for the public sector.
